Curriculum Design and Course Development
Curriculum design and course development is the next step after instructional design. Here is how we help you.
Curriculum DesignBefore creating courses, it is best to develop an overall plan for what the training program will include. This plan, or "curriculum design," describes all the courses in the training program, shows how they fit together, identifies links between the courses and the audiences they are intended to serve, and outlines the purpose, target audience, and prerequisites for each course.
In order to design your curriculum, we first perform a needs analysis to determine your business goals and training requirements. We interview stakeholders to understand people's job functions and day-to-day tasks in order to tailor courses to meet their needs. We learn who requires training, in what subjects, to what depth, and how urgently. We also learn what your business drivers are so that we can build training programs to help you accomplish these goals and strategies. A company expanding into new markets where your product is not well understood, for example, will need courses targeted to these new customers. A company switching from traditional product lines to newer technologies will require various levels of training for multiple audiences--from salespeople to engineers to partners to employees. In some cases, you may call on us to build an entire curriculum; in others, you may want us to put together only one or two courses. Regardless of the size of the program, we study your training requirements and business goals so that we can build the curriculum or course to address them. Course Development Once the curriculum design is complete, we're ready to develop the courses. Developing a course involves instructional design, deployment strategy, course-building, preparation of instructional materials, production, and delivery. Everything we do, however, is enabled by our strength in project management and our time-tested methodology.
Course BuildingWith a detailed outline in place, we develop the content and do the storyboarding, which means determining the sequence of topics and indicating where visuals, graphics, sound, and other components will appear. For an e-Learning course, we build the web pages, focusing on such issues as navigation, user interface, chunking of text, and links. For an instructor-led course, we create the PowerPoint slides, labs, workshops, student guides, instructor guides, quick reference cards, and any other supporting materials. Finally, our production staff prepares the e-Learning program for delivery.
Supporting MaterialsE2H2 develops a wide array of supporting materials for training, including manuals, online help, quick reference guides, and web content.
